Worked in Cranboork Road for a few years in the mid 90's.

Loved it, cracking nights out in all the boozers everyone has mentioned. Good mix of punters in Ilford.

Loved the once a year Essex cricket events in Valentines Park too. Great days out.

From Barkingside, used to go the Palais, Room at the top, Lords.

And when we were at school used to go to soul night which was maybe at the town hall but not sure if IIRC

Ilford palais or 5th ave as it was called when I started going was a right of passage for any young man from around the area. Great place.
Ilford had some proper good places to go out then.
Shit hole now.

I hope you're not going to actually wear that. Especially in Ilford. I'd be interested to know what kind of reaction you'd get from the
'locals'.

As someone born and raised in Ilford, and who hasn't been down there for at least ten years, I'm guessing that most of all the old boozers will have closed by now. Ilford used to be alright,
with some decent shops, a nice park, but last time I saw it, it was a shit-hole.

The Red Lion was good for watching bands in the late 70s, like the ubiquitous Jerry the Ferret (with their Jackson Browne fixation). Less aggro there too I think, tho' that's not saying much given the area's levels of pub- based aggravation in those days
